Welcome to Little Musicians! Our aim is to provide music classes of the highest quality to children from the Heatons and beyond, and to teach the fundamentals of real musicianship in a fun and engaging setting. Led by Sophie, professional violinist in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and Early Years Music Specialist, we have delivered classes to over 450 children since starting in 2021, and we are so excited to keep that number growing!
Whether it’s singing and dancing, improvising and composing on our many percussion instruments, being introduced to all sorts of music, from Bach to Beethoven to Bluey, or playing musical games with parachutes, balls, finger puppets, scarves, and our many animal friends, children learn the fundamentals of general musicianship through a wide range of fun activities. We are BIG on rhythm, pitch and pulse here at Little Musicians, and our children as young as 2 are able to read music notation, as well as recognising pitches through the Sol-fa hand signs that we use along the way. We aim to set even our youngest members off on their musical adventures with a great foundation, helping them grow and develop their musical skills, and giving them a great head-start to potentially learning an instrument of their own one day!
We love inviting Super Star Guest Musicians to our group, and have had visiting musicians who have performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including members of the BBC Philharmonic, Opera North and The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Children have been introduced to a huge range of orchestral instruments, and have had the opportunity to try some for themselves, and to jam along in duets with these amazing guest musicians too.
We love getting creative here at Little Musicians, and often have “Music & Art w”, where we create amazing masterpieces based on the music we’ve been listening to. We’ve also loved creating our own imaginary instruments, and telling musical stories of ballets through our artwork too.
Classes run every Saturday morning during term-time, in the Basment Room of the Heatons Centre, and booking is by 1/2 term block. These classes can get a little busy, so if you find they’re fully booked you can add your name to the waiting list and we’ll hopefully be able to find a space for you soon. Looking forward to seeing you!
What you’ll find in our classes:
Live music, from Bach to Beethoven to Bluey! Sophie, professional violinist in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and her violin are always there to soothe and stimulate growing and developing brains.
Super songs and lively actions with many of our animal friends.
Calming listening time, bubbles, parachutes, scarves, balls, beanbags, and themed sessions each week.
A wide range of hands-on percussion instruments to explore- from exploring new sounds and bonding with your grown up as a newborn, to exploring independently and developing fine motor skills as you get older.
These sessions can be Pay As You Go, so no need to block book for these classes- just select the date of your class on the booking form and we’ll see you there!
